The Hospitality Team (Sometimes called the OMT) is a group of young people who are employed part time by the Café in the roles of Bar Manager and Chef. We employ 4 young people at a time, and posts are for up to 4 months at a time- a one month trial period and then a three month contract.The jobs are re-advertised every 4 months to allow as many young people as possible to have an opportunity to gain these life skills, but staff can reapply for their jobs at the end of their contract. These jobs at the Café allow young people to learn a range of skills and access training that will help them in later life when they begin to look for work.
After the advertisement of the post, there is an application and interview process so that even those who are not successful in getting a job are learning important skills. Applicants are all debriefed on their interviews so that they know what they did well, and what they should work on for future interviews. The training package for each job is unique, but there are a few overlaps between them including REHIS (food hygiene) training, stock control training, IT training, learning how to order supplies, customer service, budgeting, organising volunteers and record keeping. The experience builds up to complete employment in microcosm.
