About us

Our Charity, Elgin Youth Development Group was established in 1998, with the vision of providing a safe haven, a social space and personal development opportunities for young people from our community.  As the longest standing youth support organisation, we are deeply rooted in the Elgin and the wider Moray community. 

The role of our organisation has changed over time and in line with the evolving needs of our young people.  Our dedicated youth workers and volunteers run a diverse range of term time and holiday programmes, promoting mental and physical health and wellbeing, activities and challenges as well as larger community-based events.  All programmes and services are offered free of charge to secondary pupils in the Elgin and surrounding areas. 

The sustainability of our project is always at the forefront of our minds. As such, our building is also home to our social enterprises, The Inkwell, which offers room hire alongside catering services and purpose-built community kitchen. In 2021, we opened the Café @ the Warehouse in order to grow our employability offer. This new venture is a dedicated training café for young people aged between 16-24 years old who face multiple barriers to employment. Both projects provide hands-on paid, work experience in a safe, supportive environment while providing training opportunities as well.   

The Role

We are seeking a Development Officer to support the Chief Executive Officer and the wider team.  Working across the charity, the successful candidate will be responsible for our communications and marketing which will include managing updates to our website and social media channels.  It will include generating innovative content to increase our social media engagement with the aim of raising awareness of the work we do and increasing the people using our social enterprises.  We are keen to improve our communication with volunteers, funders and other stakeholders.   

This role provides a fantastic opportunity to grow and develop your skills significantly in an exciting and supportive environment. You will have an interest in the work of the Elgin Youth Development Group.  Due to the criteria set by the funder, this role is a graduate level position.  We are seeking an articulate and proactive individual who has a flair for communications.  The candidate will have excellent writing skills, be a confident communicator and an organised self-starter.  We strive to be a learning organisation and the successful candidate will be joining a team committed to supporting young people reach their full potential.    

Job responsibilities:

Digital Promotion

  • Create engaging social media posts using graphics, animation, film & photography
  • Manage our social media channels
  • Promote the services and opportunities we offer young people  
  • Promote our volunteer opportunities so increasing the numbers of volunteers supporting our project
  • Liaise with our partner organisations and employers to co-ordinate and promote our employability offer
  • Promote our social enterprises in a consistent manner
  • Develop the website so further promote the work of the organisation and keep it up to date with compelling content

PR & Promotion

  • Introduce regular communications with customers and potential customers
  • Promote the Community Kitchen & hireable spaces and training café to help increase their usage
  • Prepare Press Releases and news stories on a regular basis
  • Identify opportunities to promote our services
  • Update our leaflets, signage, and other promotional materials

 Project Support


  • Provide fundraising support to the Chief Officer as needed
  • Undertake the day-to-day communications with our young people, volunteers & funders
